ACT Cancellation Update

5/13/2020

June 13th ACT Cancelled

The June 13, 2020 ACT test at Ashland High School has been cancelled due to the statewide directive for school buildings to not be open to the public until at least June 30. It is unclear at this time if there will be any alternative locations that are still holding tests or not, although we believe it is highly unlikely that there will be testing in Ohio due to the order for buildings to remain closed until June 30.

Please look for an email sent directly from ACT to the account you registered for the test with. This email will provide information about future testing, and how to switch your June registration to another test option.

CCP Textbook Return-Spring 2020

4/24/2020

For those students taking CCP classes at a local campus such as Ashland U, NC State, or OSU-Mansfield, you must return ALL textbooks at the end of your college semester.

Starting Monday (April 27th) a table will be set up in the vestibule (main entrance) of Ashland Middle School since AHS is closed due to construction.
  • Please complete the sheet of paper and rubber band it to your pile of books so we can track who returned their books.
  • Remember, CCP textbooks are property of Ashland City Schools and must be returned so you're not charged for them.
  • The absolute last day to return CCP textbooks to AMS will be Monday, May 18 (but feel free to drop them off as soon as you're done with them so you don't forget!)

Good luck with final exams and wrapping up your CCP courses - - -You got this!

Accuplacer Update

4/20/2020

Are you interested in taking CCP classes at AHS next year, but haven't had the chance to take the Accuplacer test or qualify from an ACT test?

Good news! North Central State College (NCSC) has developed a way for you to take the Accuplacer remotely in your home. You must contact Casey Kelley in order to schedule a day and time to test. Since this test is offered by NC State, you will work directly with Casey to arrange for testing.

A few things before contacting Ms. Kelley:

1. You MUST have applied online to the NC State CCP program before you are able to test. I believe most you did this prior to putting your name on the Accuplacer sign-up sheet, but here's the link to create an account and complete the CCP application if you still need to do so:
https://ncsc.elluciancrmrecruit.com/Admissions/Pages/Welcome.aspx .

2. You need to take the NextGen Reading test and the Writeplacer (Writing) test. To qualify for CCP, you need to earn at least a 250 score on the Reading test AND/OR at least a 5 on the Writing test. You do not have to take the math portion of the Accuplacer test since we currently do not offer any math CCP classes in our building.

3. The Accuplacer test is FREE the first time you take it. If you do not qualify based on your test scores, you can either pay to re-test or you can work with your counselor to select other classes to take that are non-CCP.

4. If you are no longer interested in taking the Accuplacer test, please let your counselor know.

Below is information from NC State. Feel free to contact Casey ASAP to schedule your test - - - Good luck!

I need to take the Accuplacer test – now what?
Please reach out to Casey Kelley at ckelley@ncstatecollege.edu to
schedule a test date and time. In your email request, please include your first name, last name and an email
address you can be contacted.
Before scheduling an Accuplacer, you must have already applied to NCSC.

Prepare & preview sample tests on the Accuplacer Website (https://accuplacer.collegeboard.org/students/prepare-for-accuplacer/practice) CCP Students will be offered the following test sections with NCSC: Next Generation Reading, WritePlacer and Advanced Algebra (again, you will only need to take the Next Gen Reading and Writeplacer tests).

What important information do I need to know for taking my Accuplacer test remotely?
Your Scheduled Test Date and Time:
Once you have scheduled your test date and time, you are required to login at that time to take your test.
Instructions for taking your test along with your voucher number will be emailed to you the day before your
test. Testing is scheduled Monday-Friday usually at 9:00am, 10:00am or 2:00pm (subject to availability).

How long does the Accuplacer test take to complete?
If you are taking all three sections (Reading, WritePlacer and Math) the test may last anywhere between 1.5-2
hours. Please note that the Reading and Math sections are not timed, however, the WritePlacer is timed for
one hour.

Technology and Room Requirements:
You will need to have access to a laptop/computer and access to the internet to complete the Accuplacer
remotely. If you only have access to a Chromebook, please reach out to Casey Kelley at
ckelley@ncstatecollege.edu before your scheduled test date as further technology requirements are required.

You can verify that your system meets Accuplacer’s technology requirements here.
• If any part of the system check fails, please make the recommended updates and run the system verification
again.
Please test in a room free of distractions, noise and other individuals. You are allowed to have blank scratch
paper and a pen/pencil. The calculator for your test will appear on the screen.

Once I complete my test, how will I retrieve my scores?
Once you complete your test, you will receive an email from Casey Kelley (ckelley@ncstatecollege.edu) with a
copy of your scores and a quick debrief of what they mean.

CCP info for CURRENT 2020 seniors

4/16/2020

Attention Seniors who have taken or are taking CCP classes:

If you are planning on attending college, you will need to request official college transcripts from all the colleges you've taken CCP courses from and have them sent to the college you are planning to attend. While your college courses are listed on your Ashland High School transcript, colleges will only officially accept the credits from an official college transcript. Each official college transcript will cost some money (usually anywhere from $3 - $7 for an official copy). Be sure you know the exact address of where you should have your CCP college transcripts sent to the college you are attending next year.

If you are currently taking CCP classes this Spring 2020 semester, wait until the semester is over and your final grades have been posted. If you send too early, there won't be grades for current classes and you'll just have to re-send again and re-pay to send another copy.

One helpful hint is to also request copies of your college transcript to be sent to yourself. Keep them sealed when they arrive in the mail, and then take them with you when you go to your college orientation to schedule your courses. The academic advisor you meet with may not have received your transcripts yet, so having your own copy will be helpful.

Here is info on requesting an official transcript from NC State:
https://ncstatecollege.edu/student-services/student-records/  (Click on the brown box at the top of the page that says "Request Official Transcript"

Here is info on requesting an official transcript from Ashland U:

Here is info on requesting an official transcript from Ohio State-Mansfield (Click on "Current Students"):

Here is info on requesting an official transcript from University of Akron-Wayne College (for students who have taken CCP French/Spanish at AHS - - You'll click on "Official Academic Transcript Request through MyAkron" and then have to log onto your MyAkron account. You can contact the Akron IT Dept if you don't remember your MyAkron login information):

CCP 3rd Quarter Grades (Honor Roll/Scholar Athlete)

3/19/2020

Many students turned in the "CCP Honor Roll/Scholar Athlete" form before school closed. If you did not, below are some options. Remember, this form is for 1) Students wanting to qualify for 3rd quarter AHS Honor Roll and/or 2) Spring sport athletes wanting to remain eligible for their Spring sport and to see if they qualify for Spring Sport Scholar Athlete. If neither of these situations apply to you, you do not need to report 3rd quarter grades from your CCP classes at local campuses (i.e. classes you're taking at Ashland U, NC State, or OSU-Mansfield).

1. If you have the form completed but weren't able to turn it in, please take a picture of it and email it to your counselor. Scanning and emailing is also a good option.

2. If you didn't get a form, please just email all your professors and ask for your current grade. Most profs have been great about emailing students back in a timely manner. Once you have an email from your professor, please forward that to your counselor.

3. If your professor is unable to provide a current grade via email, you can screen shot the most current grade available in Blackboard or whatever learning platform available and then email that to your counselor.

Remember, ALL grades must be submitted for Honor Roll/Scholar Athlete/Spring Sport Eligibility. You cannot pick and choose which classes you report.

Questions? Please reach out to your counselor. We know these are crazy times and we're here to help in any way we can! CCP grades for classes being taken at a local campus are due to Guidance no later than Friday, March 20 (or ASAP!).
