Hi Arrows!
Here's some fun information about your counseling team you may not have known before!
Here's some fun information about your counseling team you may not have known before!

Mrs. Thomas
Favorite Color: Green
Favorite Movie: Return to Me
Favorite Food: Grilled Cheese & Tomato Soup
Favorite Dessert: I prefer salt! When we go out to eat w/friends, when they're ordering dessert I'll get my appetizer!
Favorite Summer Activity: Family vacations (we go on the same trips every year - I LOVE the traditions!), fireworks, fireflies, working in my garden, going to the cabin/lake that I grew up at on my grandparents' farm
Best way to relieve stress: What I usually do: Space out. What is actually most effective: going for a walk, getting outside, or yoga
Advice for students while they're away: Figure out ways to actually see people (virtually) and hear their voices. Don't just rely on silent forms of communication. I got to have a "virtual" check in with my cousins last night using Facebook Messenger Video. It was easy and simple, and it was SO GOOD to hear their voices and laugh together. Also, we've been taking family walks every day with our dogs. One of our dogs, Macy, has gotten obese (I know - - it's awful!) I'm grateful for this time to force us to slow down and have time to do things like family walks and working to get Macy healthier again.
A message to the class of 2020: You guys - - - my heart goes out to you! You were born around 9/11 and now you're graduating during a global pandemic. It's crazy! I have no doubt you will find innovative and creative ways to still try to do as much as virtually possible to go through traditions. It's okay to grieve the things you are losing out on, but I hope you figure out ways to turn that energy into making the best of it as possible. We can't control so many of the things going on, but we can control our own thoughts and behavior. Reach out to each other. Stay connected. Find humor in it. Write good ole fashion handwritten notes to the people who have positively impacted your education and send them the notes.
Something students may not know about you: For a brief moment in time, I was part of a group that held a Guinness Book of World record! My college (Miami University) hosted an alumni event where couples could come and renew their vows (because - for whatever reason - Miami has a higher-than-average percentage of grads who marry each other and are known as "Miami Mergers." My husband and I are Miami Mergers!) So, we participated in this fabulously cheesy event, and it was a world record! It became really popular and other colleges across the country started doing this with their alum so I think the record only lasted about 6 weeks or so.

Something students may not know about you: You might not know that your parents probably had my husband, Jim Deppen as a science teacher at AMS or a football, wrestling or throwers coach in the past - ask them!
